The Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, Bangalore Province, celebrated a momentous and grace-filled event on the morning of 24 May 2025, as a group of seven novices made their First Religious Profession, joyfully embracing the Salesian way of life under the theme:
“Rooted in Love, Anchored in Hope.”
The Holy Eucharistic Celebration began at 7:00 a.m. at the Provincial House chapel and was solemnly presided over by Rev. Fr. Alex Kalathikattu SDB, a long-time friend and supporter of the Salesian Family. He was joined by a host of concelebrating priests, whose presence highlighted the unity and ecclesial support for the newly professed.
In his homily, Fr. Alex Kalathikattu beautifully reflected on the profession theme, urging the newly professed to remain deeply rooted in the love of Christ and firmly anchored in the hope of His promises, especially in the face of challenges in mission and ministry. He emphasized the importance of fidelity, community life, and joyful service in the footsteps of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello.
The rite of First Profession was marked by a deep spirit of prayer and reverence. In the presence of the Provincial Superior, Sr. Lucy Rose Ozhukayil FMA, and the gathered assembly, the novices pronounced their vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, receiving the religious habit and the Constitutions of the Institute, symbolizing their entry into the Salesian Family as Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
Sr. Provincial warmly welcomed the newly professed into the Institute and encouraged them to live their vocation with generous hearts, missionary zeal, and deep trust in God’s providence. Her message echoed gratitude to the formation community and the families of the sisters for nurturing their vocation.
The liturgy was enriched with vibrant music, symbolic gestures, and heartfelt prayers, making it a joyful and spiritually uplifting celebration. A vote of thanks was delivered by one of the newly professed sisters, expressing gratitude to God, the Salesian family, formators, and all who journeyed with them.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a fellowship breakfast was shared in a spirit of joy and fraternity, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the newly professed sisters.
This first profession, celebrated on the feast of Mary Help of Christians, serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring relevance of religious life and the vitality of the Salesian mission in our world today. We pray that these young sisters may continue to grow in holiness and joy as they serve the young with hearts rooted in love and anchored in hope.
