Catechism camp in Wyra - Khammam 26th April to 11th May 2014

We had a unique experience this summer as 112 children from various substations of our parish (Don Bosco - Wyra) had received the First Holy Gommunion. After long six years, the parish had this joy of giving Jesus to their children.

"The Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go" Lk: 10:1

Likewise under the leadership Sr. Clara the superior and the parish priest Fr. Abraham, four of our sisters - Sr. Bala Rani, Sr. Mary Yeshoda, Sr. Jose Mary and Sr. Nirmala Mummadi were sent two by two as Jesus sent out seventy disciples to all the places where he himself intended to go. These sisters carried the Good News of Jesus to almost eight villages within a short span of 15 days.

They used bible stories and action songs as their tools to teach the catechism of the Catholic Church in the simplest way possible to the little ones. It was very interesting to see the children waiting in the church before time and revising all that they had learnt the previous day. In spite of the scorching heat of Andhra, they did not want long breaks. So much so they used to gulp down the lunch in 10 minutes and rush back to the sisters, pressing them to teach more. This eagerness and fervor of the little ones enthused the sisters to do their best in communicating to them God?s love.

The parish priest Fr. Abraham sdb was very much pleased the way children were prepared for Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. The sisters said, "We are overjoyed that our holidays have become very fruitful. We did not expect that so many children will be prepared by us for these two sacraments. It is our first and best experience. Especially in Ambethkar Nagar village we were surprised by the care taken by the parents in preparing their children for this great day (as it is not a common practice n Andhra Pradesh). Some of them personally taught their children to make confession and the disposition they should have to receive Jesus worthily."

And we became aware of the fact, "The harvest is plentiful but the labourers (who are committed) are few" as Jesus said in the Gospel of Luke:10:2
