VIDES

Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione Sviluppo

In order to divert the young people from boredom and destructive activities, our late Mother Superior General Rev. Mother Marinella Castagno suggested to start some formative programme for them. Sr. Maria Grazia Caputo and a few sisters after working with a group of youngsters realized that basically they were good and generous. If they were oriented to other - centered activities, their abundant energies and capacities, could be utilized for constructive purposes. That is how VIDES was born. Soon it spread from Italy to Spain and to other European and South American countries and to Asia.

VIDES grew to such an extent that today it is recognized as an International NGO in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council and the department of public information of the United Nations.

In India VIDES means International Volunteers for Education and Development and service. The very name shows its objective. The volunteers are expected to render an hour of service every week and to attend a formation talk once a month. Youth and adults can become members.

In Bangalore Province, VIDES has taken roots in 11 centres. The members render valuable services to the needy and the suffering
